Trango Jaws
Saving many belayers and rappellers from scorched hands, this device dramatically improves upon a tube's braking power. It has two .75-inch deep V-shaped notches on one side that allow a belayer to effortlessly lock off the rope even during the stoutest of whippers, and also prevents the rope from twisting on rappel. On slabby rappels where less friction is needed the device may be rotated 180 degrees so the rope runs over the other non-notched side. Alpinists and other double-rope aficionados should note that Jaw's V-notches also provide the surest control and fall arresting of any double rope-compatible device reviewed.

Jaws
The V-shaped notches of the Trango Jaws make it a versatile belay device. When it's rigged so the notches are on the side of your brake hand, you get over twice the braking power because of wedging in the grooves. Jaws rules for using a pair of slick double or twin ropes, rappelling with a haul bag or belaying a heavy climber.
